Food tech is a vast and integrative industry and the use of patents and formulated technology can be essential in allowing food and technology to continue to evolve together. When developing and perfecting CPGs, patented technology can help companies compete in their market while also creating a product that is innovative and unique. Bo Perry is the co-founder and CEO of Pizootz, a company producing flavor-Infused peanuts that were invented utilizing a patented, unique infusion process that uses just water, pressure, and steam to put flavors inside the nut. Bo and Pizootz are currently part of Cohort 7 of our accelerator where Bo is using what he has learned to continue to evolve Pizootz as a brand. Recently we discussed with Bo the inspiration behind his brand and patented process, the importance of learning from mistakes and Pizootz biggest product launch yet!

“Food Future Co has helped me identify what I need to learn and understand better while also helping me create opportunities for Pizootz”

What inspired you to create your brand/company?

The idea that we could create a global brand. We knew we had a great product due to our patented infusion process. So, we thought why not try to shoot for the moon!

What are/were you hoping to gain from participation in the FoodFutureCo accelerator program?

To learn what I did not know. That is exactly what I told Shen when I interviewed with him. More specifically, I have learned about the CPG industry.

How will you differentiate yourselves against the current competition?

That is an easy question because our patented infusion process makes us stand out. We add no chemicals, additives, or preservatives, we just use water, pressure, and steam to put all our natural flavors inside the nut.

What is your favorite characteristic of your brand/company?

We are quirky. We use Dr. Alfred P. Pizootz to tell our story and we know it works. We sent all our promotional material to a wholesaler in Japan, and they wrote us back and told us that they wanted to come to the USA and meet Dr. Alfred P. Pizootz.

What do you feel is the most valuable component when creating a food-based brand/company?

I would love to tell you that it’s presenting a great, good for you product, but revenue generation is important!

What do you think the future of your company will look like in the next year?

When the pandemic first started, we faced a lot of supply chain obstacles, so it is hard to know when we will resolve that, but I can tell you that we will continue to produce and sell the best American grown product we can make with our Patented process.

What is your biggest challenge as a brand/company?

Learning from our mistakes and then using what we learned to be a better company.

How have you overcome this challenge while participating in the accelerator program?

Food Future has helped me identify what I need to learn and understand better while also helping me create opportunities for Pizootz.

What is your next goal for your brand/company?

We are launching our biggest product yet! We are transitioning from being a flavor infused peanut company to becoming a flavor infused snack company by adding USA grown heirloom hulless pumpkin seeds, Georgia grown Pecans and a premium trail mix of Almonds, Pecans, Pumpkin Seeds and Cranberries to our line of products. With these products we are looking to expand into the single serve market in the USA.
